History of Nucleus Network

October 2002

AUD$8 million seed funding from the Victorian Government’s Science Technology and Innovation Grant Program. The founding members were Cancer Trials Australia, Neurosciences Victoria, Melbourne Health, and the Centre for Clinical Studies (comprising the Baker Heart Research Institute, the Alfred Hospital and Monash University).

March 2005

Board decision to transfer ownership of the organisation to the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute, forming a fully independent subsidiary. The mission of the organisation remains in line with the original charter.

July 2005

Formation of Nucleus Network is complete. National and international strategic alliances with clinical research organisations continue to grow to a network comprising over forty-five research organisations to provide services for Industry. Full product development service model for clinical research is established.

June 2006

June 1st, 2006, Nucleus Network becomes formally incorporated as Nucleus Network Ltd. Nucleus Network Ltd ABN 39 102 450 706 trades as Centre for Clinical Studies, Clinical Trials Consulting, Nucleus Network Education in association with its network partners.

February 2008

A new $2.5 million, 16-bed clinical research centre located at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne is opened as a joint venture between Austin Health and Nucleus Network and brings together the nation’s top clinical researchers, medical professionals and research alliances.



The creation of "Nucleus Network" began with the decision to bring together Clinical Trials Victoria, The Centre for Clinical Studies and its Member Alliances together - creating one name, representing one entity and creating an organisation that was greater than the sume of its parts. Nucleus Network was conceitved by clinicians and researchers to provide a framework for world-class clinical research services for the Australian and International Biotech Industry. A platform was created for clinicians and researchers to market their talents globally, while providing a shared infrastructure that would keep abreast and lead the way for excellence in clinical research performance.
